Canberra Blues Society – CD

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

Dear Geoff

I am a member of the Canberra Blues Society (CBS) and I am undertaking to production of a compact disc.

The Canberra Blues Society is a non profit organisation promoting blues music in the Canberra Region.
The Society is planning to produce a compact disc, featuring many of Canberra’s Blues music bands. The intention is to sell the cd and raise funds to bring well known – but more expensive – blues musicians to Canberra.
We are aiming for about 20 – 25 tracks. We would like to design a cd which incorporates a Canberra feature and includes liner notes and details and photographs of the band(s) featured on the cd.

We have limited funds available to produce the cd and I was wondering whether it was possible for your students to undertake the design as an assignment task as part of their course?

yours etc.,

Colin Whittaker

Xzibit website design

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

My name is Justin Russo – I’m a (soon to be) graduate from the UC school of Business & Government. As much as I would rather be at uni today I’ve already transitioned to full time work L

I have an exciting offer for a final year student who excels at creative graphic design. I am the founder of a fan website about American Musician, TV and Movie star “Xzibit”. The website address is http://www.xzibitcentral.com. Xzibit recently featured in the box office movie X-Files 2. Previous to this he hosted MTV’s most popular TV show “Pimp My Ride”. I started the website as a hobby in 2003 since then I have been fortunate enough to meet Xzibit a few times when he has come to Australia on tour.

In recent times I have been getting emails from fans calling for an urgent redesign of the website. I have since lost all of the graphic design skills I had when I originally built the website, so I was hoping to offer a final year student the opportunity to redesign the website to add to their portfolio to help in gaining employment upon graduation. With statistics such as 4+ million unique viewers, and 12+ million page views since it went online, I’m sure a future employer would be interested to see that the student has a live example of their work online on a popular website.

Xzibit is a very popular teen icon so I can almost guarantee your students will know of Xzibit through either his music or acting. As XzibitCentral.com website is non profit I am hoping a university student can do the work without a fee. But if that is not possible I’m sure we could try to work something out.

Please let me know if this is a possibility.

If a student is interested in making contact, rather than using my ATO email address, please forward them:

My contact details are in the enclosed documents.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Nordic Film Festival

Saturday, June 13th, 2009

A promising gig producing promotional materials for a Nordic Film Festival in October.

“To give you an idea, however, we would like to print

- full-colour posters, size A3
- full-colour festival programmes, size A6, apprx.16 pages
- full-colour or two-colour flyers, size one-third of an A4, printed one
side or two sides.

If you have any other suggestions, feel free to let me know about them
as well.”

Read the correspondance below for more details.

As usual, check with the group before making any enquiries – we definitely do not want multiple people phoning with the same questions. I first suggested this job to David as he was walking past my office at the time, so maybe start with David. (Hope that’s ok David?)

Hi Sanna,
great to hear from you.

We have a student consultancy that performs work such as yours and I am certain they would be most interested in the project. In addition to completing the design work, the students take the opportunity to negotiate directly with “clients” such as yourself. However, the students are currently on mid-year break, returning 20th July. I will attempt to contact some students to liaise with you but it could be that we may have to wait until 20th July.

The team completing the work will be able to provide you with all details regarding timing for design and production, and the associated costs. Even if the work does not commence before 20th July there should be no issues meeting your Oct 16 deadline. Any fees paid to the students are used to fund their final year exhibition.

Please feel free to phone if you want to discuss the project in more detail.

Dear mr Hinchcliffe,

I believe you were already contacted by the Finnish Embassy concerning
the desinging of visual material for the Nordic Film Festival. As my
colleague will be on holidays, I am currently taking care of the
arrangements.

We haven’t decided yet the exact sizes or colours of the materials, it
all depends on the prices and choices.

To give you an idea, however, we would like to print

- full-colour posters, size A3
- full-colour festival programmes, size A6, apprx.16 pages
- full-colour or two-colour flyers, size one-third of an A4, printed one

I understand that your students would be able to help out in the this
project? It would be great to be able to co-operate in this, however, we
might end up being short of time as we still haven’t finalized the
content of the materials. Would you be able to estimate how long it
would take for your students to design above mentioned items and what
possible costs it would have?

Thank you for your help in this – looking forward to hear from you!

Dear Mitchell,

The Nordic Embassies are planning to organise a Nordic Film Festival in
Canberra and Sydney and the date they are aiming for is 16 October 2009.

We understand that your students can design the visual material that
goes with such an event, such as brochures, flyers, posters, etc

I would be grateful if you could advise if they can undertake such a
project, if so, how long would it take and what costs would be involved

Logo design – Faculty of Health Clinic

Friday, May 8th, 2009

The Faculty of Health Clinic provides Allied Health Services to the Community of Canberra from it’s location within the Faculty of Health at UC. It has been operating for one year, but does not yet have a logo to identify it clearly – it operates as an independent entity to the university, so the uni logo cannot be used.

They want a quick turn around on this, so please make contact asap if you have any interest in this job.

CBMCS Logo design ($500)

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

CBMCS is the research Centre for Biomedical, Molecular and Chemical Science at the University of Canberra.

We are looking for a NEW logo for the Centre for Biomedical, Molecular and Chemical Sciences (CBMCS) and we want a UC student to design it for us!

Prizes
Submit your logo design by June, and you might find yourself $500 richer.

See this PDF for full brief: CBMCS logo brief

UPDATE

I asked Maryanne Simpson about the consultancy class working on it as a job rather than a competition and this is her reply:

“I am happy for you to give the project to the GD consultancy class.
This seems to be our best possible option as the Director of CBMCS,
Suresh Mahalingam, is keen to keep things moving forward and the sooner
we have a suitable logo the more we can achieve.”

So, please organise a delegation to see her asap about the work.
